It Started with Tears on the Porch: The Story Behind Shebang

We didn’t mean to start a company.
We were just two friends sitting on a front porch and being vulnerable with each other.

It was supposed to be a meeting about a website. Nothing major. A quick creative consult between two friends. But instead of talking about design, we ended up talking about everything else.

About feeling overwhelmed for no reason.
About crashing at random times of the day.
About mood swings that made no sense.
About how it felt to be in a body that suddenly didn’t feel like ours anymore.

And one of us cracked open. Full-on cried. Not just teary-eyed, but the kind of crying that comes from somewhere deep and unnameable.

Instead of brushing it off, we listened to each other.
And instead of pretending it was normal stress, we named it:
This was perimenopause.

We Didn’t Know What We Didn’t Know

That first conversation was messy, honest, and completely unexpected. One of us had already started the journey of figuring things out. The other was just beginning. But we both realized something huge in that moment: no one was talking about this.

No one had prepared us.
No one had warned us how invisible it can feel.
How destabilizing.
How emotional.
How lonely.

And the more we talked to other women, the more we realized we weren’t the only ones. Not even close.

That’s When the Idea Started Brewing

At first, we thought we were building a website for a design business. But that idea quickly became something else. Something bigger. Something we couldn’t shake.

We kept coming back to this truth:
Women are silently suffering.
And most of them are blaming themselves for it.

So we got to work. We researched. We tested products. We kept talking.
And the idea for Shebang was born.

We Created the Thing We Needed

We didn’t want to build another “wellness brand.”
We wanted something that felt like support. Like being seen. Like a friend showing up with exactly what you didn’t know you needed.

We created Shebang to give women the things that actually help:
Clean, effective products.
Real, honest information.
Community. Humor. Relief.
Permission to stop trying to hold it all together.

And that’s how our first box came to be.

The Permission to Pause Box

This box isn’t just a theme. It’s where everything begins.

Because if there’s one thing we’ve learned from midlife, it’s this:
Women don’t need more to-do lists.
We need space. Stillness. Permission to stop.

This box is your invitation to step back and reset. To say,
“I matter.”
“I’m allowed to rest.”
“I don’t have to do it all alone.”

Inside, we’ve included products we personally use to calm our nervous systems, support our shifting hormones, and help us feel a little more like ourselves again. And we didn’t stop there. We’re creating a full three-month journey...each box building on the last to walk with you through this wild transition.

From a Porch Talk to a Movement

We never set out to create a brand. We set out to create a lifeline.

Shebang is for every woman who’s ever felt confused, dismissed, exhausted, or overwhelmed in her own body.
It’s for the ones who’ve whispered their symptoms into Google at 2AM.
It’s for the ones who’ve cried on the way to work and didn’t know why.

This isn’t about “fixing” anything.
It’s about remembering who we are.
It’s about making space for midlife to be something more than a crisis.
It’s about building something better, together.
